Position Information

  • Nassau Community College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Vice President (AVP) position in the Office of Human Resources. The AVP is responsible for providing leadership, direction, general supervision and evaluation for all assigned departments/areas, as aligned to the College's Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards, as well as working expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution while operating with a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders.  In addition, the AVP is responsible to supervise the implementation and reporting of all applicable programs/benefits offered by the College/County, including but not limited to retirement and health insurance, including dental and optical programs, tax deferred annuities, time and leave, and deferred compensation programs; act as the liaison with ITS and other College and County departments, as necessary, regarding testing and implementation of the College's management systems and/or programs relative to the assigned department(s)/area(s); ensure Payroll Department resolves issues as they arise and ensures all employees receive paychecks on a timely basis; implement College's Human Resource policies as requested by the Board of Trustees or the administration and ensure sound Human Resource practices, procedures and/or policies; conduct orientation for new faculty, administration and staff; maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations and pending legislation related to assigned area; oversee the mentoring, training and development of staff members in accordance with the institution's guidelines, procedures, and policies and provide timely feedback; supervise and direct staff, as assigned; exhibit fiscal responsibility and accountability in the management of all assigned budgets and necessary reporting; responsible for identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned areas, as well as working collaboratively with other senior administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College; assist in institutional management, policy development, college advancement, and strategic planning, as needed; attend, in a confidential capacity, to personnel administration and disciplinary procedures, as needed; develop and maintain strong working relationships with all areas of the College; serve as a member of the senior leadership team; serve on committees as appointed; meet with and brief the Board of Trustees and/or with individual trustees when required; provide the President, President's Cabinet, the Board of Trustees, and general and outside counsel with confidential information and advice in the performance of duties as a direct College representative during negotiations and contract administration with the collective bargaining representatives of College employees, pursuant to the Taylor Law of the State of New York, as needed; participate directly in labor negotiations when necessary; work effectively with diverse populations; other duties as assigned.
