    The opportunity:

    The Title IX Coordinator will report to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and has primary responsibility for overseeing the College’s Title IX efforts.

    The Title IX Coordinator will directly oversee the Associate Director of Title IX. In addition, Swarthmore has a team of four Deputy Title IX Coordinators (affiliated with the following areas: Student Affairs, Office of the Provost, Human Resources, and Athletics) who will complement the work of the Title IX Coordinator by providing education, training, and support for all members of the campus community around questions related to sexual violence and harassment as well as alcohol and drug use. The Title IX Coordinator will work closely with Student Affairs, Office of General Counsel, Office of the Provost, Athletics, Human Resources, Public Safety, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and academic departments to ensure that reports are addressed consistently and that community members are aware of processes and resources available through the Title IX office.

    The Title IX Coordinator will also be tasked with communicating policy changes or relevant trends to key stakeholders, including the Board of Managers, President’s Staff, students, faculty, and staff.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Policy & Compliance

    • Lead efforts across all divisions of the College to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements as they relate to Title IX laws and regulations;
    • Monitor and ensure full compliance with all requirements and timelines specified in the complaint procedures;
    • Work collaboratively with the Deputy Title IX Coordinators, VP for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and others across the College to ensure informed and consistent communication around policy implementation;
    • Provide vision and leadership around Title IX issues over the long‐term, emphasizing both compliance and education as key priorities.

    Complaint review & response

    • Coordinate and execute the College’s response and investigation of complaints pursuant to Title IX in a timely manner, including sexual harassment and sexual misconduct, as well as other forms of gender‐based harassment and inequity.

    Education and Training

    • Oversee the quality and consistency of training, education, and outreach programming regarding Title IX, including gender‐based inequity for the campus community, in partnership with colleagues across campus and outside experts;
    • Act as a subject matter expert on the evolving legal, regulatory, research-driven, and educational landscape of Title IX related topics, issues, and concerns, including gender equity in higher education;
    • Advise any individual, including a complainant, a respondent, or a third party, about the courses of action available at the College, both informally and formally;
    • Provide assistance to any College community member regarding how to respond appropriately to reports of sexual misconduct.

    Campus Culture and Climate

    • Serve on assigned committees, including those convened by the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, that support the College’s collective efforts to build and maintain a safer and more gender‐equitable campus climate for all members of the community;
    • Work collaboratively and proactively with campus and community partners to ensure the campus climate is equitable, safe, and welcoming for all members of the Swarthmore community.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Directly supervises the work of the Associate Director, Title IX.
    • Effectively performs the following:
      • Organize workflow and ensure staff understand their duties or delegated tasks.
      • Ensure staff have a professional development plan in place. Provide and develop training opportunities. Create and conduct staff performance evaluations.
      • Communicate key issues and information to staff.
      • Provide fair, constructive, and timely feedback.
      • In partnership with Human Resources, follow disciplinary procedures as established in accordance with the employee handbook.
      • Participate in supervisory training opportunities.
      • Maintain a safe, diverse, and inclusive work environment.
