Position Information

  • UT Martin seeks a visionary and broadly skilled human resources executive with substantial leadership experience for the position of Director of Human Resources. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, the Director is expected to provide strategic vision, leadership, and expertise in all facets of human resources.

    As Director of Human Resources for UT Martin, the position provides advice, guidance, and/or direction to primarily internal staff on HR issues related to compensation, employee relations, professional development, recruitment, payroll, benefits, and other HR-related matters for the Martin campus. In addition to guiding decision-making on issues related to faculty and staff workforces, the Director is responsible for ensuring that employment practices are lawful and that the application of human resources initiatives remains in alignment with UT System policy.

  • Located in rural Northwest Tennessee, UT Martin is showing its 7,500 students that the “Sky’s the Limit” through its main campus, regional centers and online programs.

    UT Martin is a primary regional campus in the UT System offering bachelor’s degrees, majors, concentrations and options in more than 150 specialized fields as well as eight graduate degrees. In addition to the main campus, the university has six regional centers in Jackson, Parsons, Selmer, Ripley, Somerville and Springfield. UT Martin Online offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, including the online bachelor of interdisciplinary studies degree for working adults.

    Focused on providing access to higher education, UT Martin has more off-campus centers than any public four-year university in the state and is the UT System’s largest provider of online education. In addition, UT Martin has created partnerships with other UT campuses to provide roadmaps to professional degree programs, such as law and veterinary medicine at UT Knoxville and pharmacy at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis.

  • Required Qualifications

    • A master’s degree in Human Resources or a closely related field is required
    • 7+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in human resources, including expertise in key areas such as employee relations, professional development, compensation, performance management, employee engagement, succession planning, and change management
    • Demonstrated experience consulting and advising senior-level leaders in broad areas of human resources.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience and a commitment to an inclusive and collaborative management style that fosters teamwork and empowers others to excel 
    • Demonstrated experience dealing with highly sensitive and confidential HR issues and scenarios
    • Demonstrated history of successful collaboration with multiple constituencies

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Professional HR certifications (i.e., SPHR, SHRM-SCP, etc.) are strongly preferred
    •  Experience in higher education, including experience working within a multi-campus university system is strongly preferred
