Position Information

  • The HR Generalist is responsible for partnering strategically with leadership and employees to support University goals and initiatives which foster employee engagement, development, performance, and improves the employee experience. Through a broad range of human resources activities this role delivers value-added service to management and employees.     • Partner with leaders to align Human Resources practices with university and department/college strategy and identify potential barriers to goal attainment.
    • Provide general Human Resources support to staff and faculty to answer human resources questions and assist with HR policies and procedures.
    • Perform data entry for new hires, transfers and exiting employees in Banner and CSOD systems, and verify accuracy of data through audits and query generation.
    • Design and deliver professional training activities to assigned departments/colleges.
    • Perform staff job audits, analyze salary survey information, recommend appropriate classification, and draft written analysis for position and compensation placement.
    • Respond to questions regarding HR related issues and follow up to ensure resolution. Maintain confidentiality of employee issues and integrity of records.
    • Provide advice to supervisors and employees to resolve specific problems relating to coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline with particular attention to dispute resolution issues.
    • First point of contact for employee relations concerns; conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations; makes recommendations regarding resolution.
    • Ensure compliance based on accurate interpretation of federal and state policies and regulations.
    • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
    • Participates in on-campus committees and teams as appropriate.  Assists with special Human Resources projects as needed and other Human Resources duties as assigned.
    • Track and engage the Interactive Process for ADA Accommodation requests.
    • Serve as Title IX investigator as needed.

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or related area or equivalent experience. Master’s degree in related field and/or Human Resources certification preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, etc).
    Experience: Three plus years progressively responsible human resources experience.
    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
    • Must have overall knowledge of professional human resources practices, with strong understanding of all aspects of recruiting and employment law and regulations.
    • Must have strong analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Must be well organized and have the ability to handle multiple simultaneous demands in a changing environment.
    • Ability to discern and protect the confidentiality and sensitivity of information and situations.
    • Ability to use good judgment, strong human relations skills, and decision-making capabilities.
    • Must possess highly effective communication skills. Ability to conduct accurate research and concisely summarize information. 
    • Proficient use of a PC with demonstrated working knowledge of computer software applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to learn and use administrative software programs (i.e. Ellucian, CSOD).
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations.
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
