ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
CUPA-HR has an opening for the position of
Survey Researcher
with these primary functions:
A. SURVEY DEVELOPMENT AND EDITING
Identify key concepts to be measured.
Define target populations.
Create and edit survey questions using research-based best practices.
B. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Assist with the identification of target audiences and stakeholders.
Assist with the assessment of data needs and wants of the higher ed HR community.
Manage multiple projects and timelines.
Manage expectations and clearly communicate with team members in an environment of change.
Take ownership of and lead projects as assigned.
C. DATA COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT
Oversee data collection.
Ensure data is as error-free as possible.
Ensure data is secure and confidential.
Ensure data is appropriately accessible.
D. DATA ANALYSIS AND DISSEMINATION
Perform appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical analyses.
Communicate research results to technical and non-technical audiences via written reports.
Collaborate with the data visualization developer to create charts and graphics that summarize and highlight the data.
Present results at conferences, webinars, and other appropriate events.
E. USER ASSISTANCE
Respond to user requests for assistance in submitting, accessing, or using data.
Teach research skills labs that promote skills in data-driven decision-making.
The Survey Researcher performs functions that support the mission of maintaining CUPA-HR’s position as the platinum standard for higher ed workforce research and building CUPA-HR’s research capacity to collect and communicate data that inform decisions around higher ed workplace issues. The Survey Researcher must fully understand survey methodology, statistical analysis, project management, data communication, and scientific writing.
The Survey Researcher collaborates with other members of the research team, other members of the CUPA-HR National Office Staff, survey vendors, and members of the higher ed HR community to develop surveys; enable and enhance survey participation; analyze results; and develop effective methods for communicating data visually, orally, and in writing that enable higher ed HR leadership to make informed decisions about hiring, retaining, and compensating staff and faculty talent, as well as improving and advocating for the higher ed workplace. Thus, this position requires an ability to collaborate, clearly and frequently communicate, and manage various stakeholders in achieving project goals.
ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW, AND APPROVAL OF WORK
The Survey Researcher reports to the Senior Survey Researcher, who prioritizes and assigns all work. The Survey Researcher also consults and collaborates with the research team, other national office staff, and leaders of the higher ed HR community to achieve objectives, get feedback, and generate ideas for new projects.

xpected to be proactive, work both independently and collaboratively, and organize and prioritize tasks to assure timely data collection and delivery of results
, staying consistent with the mission, goals, and established standards and strategic priorities of the association.
Further, the survey researcher must represent CUPA-HR in a professional, accurate, and responsive manner when handling external and internal communications. Also, it is of utmost importance that the survey researcher maintains the confidentiality of association information.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
EDUCATION
Graduate degree in psychology, other social science, institutional research, data analytics, or related field is required. Doctoral degree is preferred; however, those with a master’s degree and commensurate level of experience should not hesitate to apply.
EXPERIENCE
Requires experience and expertise in the following, with a desire to build on skills in any area that needs development:
Scientific writing
Communicating results and data concepts to non-technical audiences
Data analysis
Survey development
Experience in workplace, institutional, or organizational assessment is a plus.
Experience with human resources data is a plus.
Experience in database management or data visualization is a plus.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Survey design and implementation
Quantitative data analysis (e.g., descriptive statistics, ANOVA, regression, factor analysis, other modeling techniques)
Ability to understand and co-develop graphic representations of data
Scientific writing (reports or articles)
Detail- and deadline-oriented
Respect for data confidentiality and sensitivity
Strong communication and writing skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is a regular, full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Some evening hours, weekend work, and travel will be required.
CUPA-HR is a fully remote, 4-day workweek organization.
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS
Annual salary $85K-90K, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
